According to figures from IDC, phone shipments reached 37.6 million units in the second quarter of 2005, and in light of this growth the analyst is now predicting the mobile phone market will grow 11 per cent this year.

Data from research consultancy firm mobileYouth cites the number of under 16 year olds in the UK owning a mobile phone is now in excess of 5 million.

Multimedia phones are driving the European mobile phone market, with a healthy 20 per cent year-on-year growth reported for the second quarter of 2005 (IDC).

Strategy Analytics (SA) reported that 185 million handsets were shipped worldwide in Q2 2005. Global shipments increased at a 16% annual rate in the second quarter of 2005, up from 10% in Q1 2005.

Most consumers have an interactive mobile device in their pocket. The opportunities in mobile media messaging is phenomenal - retailers or entertainment venues can now offer personal 'Infotainment' services to customers - without the burden of call-costs placed on the consumer. Using high-speed, short range wireless technology and a simple interactive application (similar to a mini web-browser) customers with no technical knowledge can gain access to product & service information, photos, movies, pricing, games, ring-tones, wallpapers and MP3 music files.
